This paper proposes a generic scheme for dental CT image segmentation, which is based on mathematical morphology. The implementation of morphological reconstruction and filtering techniques is used to process the image, with the aim of identifying teeth within the oral cavity from a human specimen. Initial studies using dental CT images have demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed scheme for segmenting teeth from the surrounding biological matter.
